God Is Waiting
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." -- Luke 15:20
We all want to believe the grass is greener on the other side. If we only had a bigger house, if we only made more money, if we only lived in a larger city, if only ... the list goes on and on. We're so busy trying to get something else to fill that hole in us that we can't see what we already have is all we really need.
The worst part of this journey is that the more we seek these things, the further we spiral into sin. Satan is a lier and he tells us exactly what we want to hear. We deserve the extras padded to our expense account, Satan tells us. A little flirtation won't hurt a spouse who will never know, Satan whispers. Everybody is doing it so it must be okay, he rationalizes to us. As Pastor Gary pointed out, when we roll around in sin, having a good time and losing focus, one day we'll open our eyes and find ourselves bound in sin.
Fortunately, our Father is always willing to welcome us back into His loving arms. He loves us unconditionally and we can never venture so far away that we can't find our way back to Him. Like the prodigal son who headed home, God is watching for us. He is filled with love and compassion. His arms are open wide to welcome us home.
