Measure Words, Actions Carefully
"My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry," -- James 1:19
In this season of Lent, we are collecting money for Haiti. As we reflect on our blessings, I wonder what would happen if we also collected money based on other things.
For example, what if we were asked to give 25 cents for every busybody we know. Okay, you say. I know a few of those. Now that you're filled with self-righteousness, listen to the rest of the assignment. Give $1 for every time you've been a busybody today.
Oops! I ruffled a few feathers. Did you find yourself rushing to explain your thoughts, words or actions? We've all been a busybody at some point, meddling in someone else's business. I'm sure you did it for the best of reasons. You only spoke the truth. It was your job as a friend, family member or co-worker. Uh-huh. I've used all those excuses and more.
Now imagine what would happen if you measured your words and actions carefully -- after much time in prayer. What would happen if you turned it over to God and trusted Him to handle whatever you think needs handling?
Yeah. He really does know what He's doing. And He really does know the rest of the story. And He really doesn't need your help or mine. Turn the situation over to God and trust Him.
