Let Go Of The Past
“All who invoke a blessing or take an oath will do so by the God of truth. For I will put aside my anger and forget the evil of earlier days.
Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth -- so wonderful that no one will even think about the old ones anymore.” -- Isaiah 65:16-17
How heavy is your baggage? Does it weigh you down? Hold you back? Make you want to give up? It doesn’t have to be that way.
Jesus came to give us the gift of salvation. He died for our sins. That means if we accept His gift, if we believe He died for us and rose again three days later, then we can approach God and ask for forgiveness for our sins. And we’re forgiven!
We don’t have to carry all that baggage around anymore. We don’t have to keep beating ourselves up over past mistakes. We can hand all that guilt over to God and move forward in His grace.
Yeah, I know. Mistakes almost always come with consequences and we have to deal with those. But God helps us. He never leaves us alone, no matter what we’ve done. And He forgives us. It’s amazing. No matter what it is or how others view us, God forgives us.
So why do we refuse to let go of all that baggage? It doesn’t help anyone. In fact, it can hurt us and keep us from realizing the blessings God has planned for us. We become so focused on a past we can’t undo that we can’t see clearly to follow the light ahead of us.
Jesus paid for our sins. God loves and forgives us. All we have to do is ask. God has put our sins behind Him. Why can’t we do the same?
