Let His Peace Fill You

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." -- Philippians 4:6-7

This is one of my favorite Bible passages. In fact, it's one of the few that I've memorized. I recite it numerous times in my mind when worry seems to build and build until it reaches a point that almost overwhelms me.

My Mother is having another melanoma removed tomorrow. It is on her face. The surgery is a day surgery. They tell us we'll be home by lunch. She'll probably be bringing a drainage tube with her but at least, hopefully, the cancer will be gone. Of the three types of skin cancer, melanoma is the most dangerous.

I believe everything will be fine. I worry that something will go wrong. I pray that His peace will fill me so that I can be calm amidst all the chaos that surgery involves. I know Mother is worried. I understand. Who wouldn't be worried? So I pray that His peace will fill her too.

There's just something pretty amazing to realize that God truly is in control. Jesus healed so many people while He was on this earth. I know He will be in that operating room, healing my Mother. Humans are fallible. We make mistakes. Things go wrong. But God never makes mistakes. His will is perfect every time.

So I quote favorite scripture passages and pray for His peace and His healing touch on my Mother. He tells me not to worry, to tell Him what I desire, then let His peace fill me. And so it has.
