God Creats New Blessings
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new
thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? -- Isaiah 43:18-19a
I don't like change. I like things to muddle along as they are. I find security in the sameness around me. Change can come like a hurricane bearing down on my orderly world. I hang on even as I am whipped around by the wind and rain.
I try to remember if I have always been this way. There was a time when I welcomed change, even sought it. Change brought hope for a different future and a path away from pain and destruction. I suspect the difference in outlook has much to do with age. That doesn't bring me comfort. Indeed, it makes me groan. I don't want to be that old person so set in my ways that I resist living the life that awaits.
God reminds us that not all change is bad. Indeed, much is good. He brings new things our way. Good things. We resist His efforts, much like a 2-year-old resists a nap from which he will awake refreshed and energized. He smiles down on us patiently, indulgent, as He continues His efforts to make our lives better.
I thank God for His patience as I resist yet again. I am grateful that He seeks to create new things for me. Good things. A new way. A change that will only bring blessings.
