Keep Walking Toward God

For since the world began, no ear has heard, and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him! -- Isaiah 64:4

Sometimes when we are so involved in day-to-day life, it’s difficult to see what God has planned for us ahead. We’re so focused on the reality of life around us that we can’t see beyond what we’re faced with now.

We’re supposed to hope in God. And we do. But the monotony of life weighs on us and we can’t imagine that it could ever be anything different. We live our days waiting for the next day off, the next vacation, the next paycheck. We’re always waiting for something because we can’t imagine that there isn’t more to our existence.

We give thanks for our blessings. Those blessings are all around us. Health. Home. Food. Family. Church. Even a Bible to read and study. We feel guilty for wanting more. Shouldn’t we be content where we are? Shouldn’t we be so wrapped in gratitude that we never want for more than what we already have?

But humans are not made that way. We want more than what we have. We want to belong. We want to surround ourselves with things we may not need but things we desire with a deep burning in our hearts. We want what we think we need to be happy, to be content, to be more than our day-to-day existence says we are.

Where do we even start? How do we look beyond today and see the endless possibilities that God has in store for us? How do we focus on what lies ahead when we can’t see beyond what lies right in front of us?

Sometimes maybe all we really need to know is that God has something wonderful planned for us. Our job is to do good where we are. We are to love God with all our hearts. We are to fill our souls with His Word and His Truth. We are to keep going forward, even when we can’t see the way. Just keep walking toward the light, knowing that we’ll be okay.
