Trust In God

"Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me." -- Psalm 41:9

Trust is a firm belief in the reliability or truth or strength of a person or thing. At least that's what the dictionary says. To many of us it goes a lot deeper. It is the foundation of our relationships. Betrayal wounds in ways that really can't be rebuilt, at least not in the same way and on the same foundation.

The Bible tells us to forgive. God says that vengeance belongs to Him. We are to do good to those who harm us. To turn the other cheek -- again and again and again. David knew about betrayal. Yet he never gave in to Saul, never retaliated. I admire that. It is a hard path. Some days it even seems impossible.

It isn't, of course. The Bible gives us David as an example. When David couldn't hold himself up, he called on God for strength to stay the course. We can do the same. Instead of getting angry and retaliating, we can cry out to God for strength to throw good at the face of evil.

Of course, doing the right thing doesn't ease the pain. We forget, sometimes, how much Saul's actions hurt David. He cried out to God many times, not only for deliverance but for God's comfort. Jesus certainly knows how it feels to be rejected and betrayed for something you didn't do. He knows how much we hurt.

The good news is that God is trustworthy. He will never betray us, never lie to us, never turn against us. God always loves us, always takes care of us, always wants what is best for us.

"Whoever trusts in the Lord is kep safe." -- Proverbs 29:25b

Amen and thank you LORD.
