The Light Reminds Us

"You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light." -- Psalm 18:18

Some days are just hard. Nothing particularly bad happens. In some ways it's just another day. Yet, the demands and strains and interruptions are like rocks in the flowing river of life. Peace would be a welcome respite.

Guilt adds to the turmoil. Everything really is good. No sickness. No poverty. Nothing to complain about and everything to be grateful for. Blessings from God. Gratitude doesn't erase the need for solitude and time to enjoy the blessings that surround me,.

Darkness threatens to close in, urging me to lash out at the world around me. I refuse and somehow that only feeds the darkness inside. But there, in the midst of it all, is a blazing light. Words of encouragement. A promise of hope and a forever filled with joy and unending celebration of a Savior lies before me.

Most folks face days like this. The kids are screaming. The boss is demanding. The car breaks down. There's nothing for dinner. And on and on it goes. The song is called life. These small things fill our days, refusing us the priorities we've determined. A reordered day and then it is over. Where is the light?

I find it in the Words He has given to us. I find it in prayer and remembrance that He has conquered the world. I find it in the sun gleaming down, the birds singing and the smiling face of an overweight dog. There is much good all around. The light reminds me. Peace settles over me. Another day done. All is well.
