God Is Forever True

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." -- Deuteronomy 31:6

It's so easy to give in to fear, especially when that fear is about being left alone. This Bible verse is a reminder that God will never, ever leave our side. I find that so very comforting.

Aren't we all secretly afraid of being abandoned by those who claim to love us? We fear betrayal by people who are closest to us. We are afraid that the person we have become so vulnerable with, our spouse or best friend, will turn on us. Our secrets will be revealed. Our vulnerabilities exposed. We will forever be scarred.

Then there are the people we fight with. Or who fight with us. Psychologists can explain the difference between a fair disagreement and a go-for-the-jugular fight. Disagreements we can usually get past. The other, not so much. The zingers hurt. They wound. The nasty comments echo through our minds long after the fight has ended.

Some people we love even have the nerve to die on us. They're there and suddenly they're not. We know it's unfair to be angry at them. They didn't mean to die. Their dying wasn't a stab at us. They didn't choose to abandon us but we feel like they did anyway. It's tough to let go and move on, to trust and believe that the next person won't die too.

It's all just one more reason to cling tightly to God. He will never leave us or abandon us. We can turn away from Him. We can abandon Him but He will never abandon us. And if ever we realize what we've done, we can turn back to Him --- and there He'll be, waiting for us with open arms and eyes full of love for His wayward child.

Put your trust in the one true God. Believe and depend on the One who is faithful and true. He loves you and He loves me. Forever. No matter what. Amen.
