Be a Christian All the Time
"Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near." -- Philippians 4:5
Do others see Christ in you? Do they know you are a Christian by your words and actions? Or do you find yourselves needing to tell others that you're a Christian as they look at you in disbelief?
Think about it for a minute. The little details of our lives do matter. Do you sit around the break table every afternoon at work and gossip with your co-workers? Not sure? Then you probably do. Not exactly a Christian activity, is it? But it's something most people do.
What about anger? When was the last time you blew up at a co-worker, a spouse, a child? Was it necessary? Did you overreact? Could the situation have been better handled calmly? And, maybe most importantly, were you as quick to apologize as you were to get angry? Sometimes anger is justified. Sometimes anger is just an excuse to blow off a little steam -- usually at someone who doesn't deserve it.
How about all those people you encounter each day? Are you kind and generous to the harried waitress? Do you offer sympathy to the mom whose child is out of control in the big box store? Do you let the other car go first -- even when it's your turn? Seeing the best in people. Being kind when you don't have to be. Those are things that reflect Jesus as He lives in you.
So many times we go through our day complaining about one thing after another. We ignore the good stuff and focus on the negative. No one can see God's light because all they see is the darkness that surrounds us.
Let people know you're a Christian by the way you live your life -- in the details. People notice what you do and how you live. Really. They do.
