Spend Time Learning From God

"We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me." -- Colossians 1:28-29

Paul, the writer of Colossians, worked hard to teach Christians and help them mature in their faith. How wonderful! Becoming a believer was only the beginning.

There's a comedy bit on the radio now. It involves a man who started at the bottom of the corporate rung and never moved up. He's still asking the same questions in the same job. He was content to simply show up, do the same job in the same way, then go home and repeat the next day. Is that how we live our lives as Christians?

So many people just show up to church on Sunday mornings. And, yes, that's a good thing. But it's only the beginning. Do they read their Bible every day? Do they attend Sunday school? What about Bible study? Are they actively learning or are they content to just coast along?

Being involved in church activities is a wonderful thing. It doesn't take the place of actually reading and studying the Bible. Sometimes people use activities as a wonderful excuse. Look at me, they say. Look at all I'm doing to serve God. It's an excuse to not spend time with God.

Which brings up another point. Spending time with God. Listening to Him. Learning from Him. He is so wise. And so loving and willing to share His knowledge and guidance. That's what reading and studying brings us -- a closer relationship with Our Father. Paul understood that. How about you?
