Humble Yourselves Before Him

"For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." -- Luke 14:11

I have struggled with the issue of humility as the Bible talks about it. Not because I am filled with ego and pride (go ahead and laugh) but because I've never fully understood how to balance humility with self-confidence. I don't believe God wants me to think badly of myself. I am His child, after all. But I am also well aware that all I am and all I have comes from Him. Without Him I am nothing.

Pastor Susannah preached on this subject a week or so ago. Our worth comes from God, she explained. I agree totally with that. She also explained that being humble doesn't mean being a doormat. Maybe that was what I was always afraid of, that I had to just let others treat me any way they chose. But that isn't it. Being humble is filling ourselves with God's grace and love and opening ourselves to Him to use for His purpose.

When we empty ourselves of ourselves, of the prejudices and stereotypes we all have, He uses us to  glorify Him. We humble ourselves before Him. And, in so doing, we find ourselves lifted up higher that we ever imagined. Thank you Lord Jesus.
