God Provides What We Need
"Then Moses said to the Israelites, "See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts -- to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship." -- Exodus 35:30-33
The Israelites were getting started on the temple and they needed skilled people to build it to the Lord's specifications. And, naturally, God provided people with the ability to do the work. There is no mention of the craftsmen saying, "Oh, no, not me. I don't have the skill to work on the Lord's temple."
Nope. The craftsmen believed that if the Lord called them, and He told Moses about it, then they were good to go. Remember that this is the same Moses who when the Lord called him to lead the Israelites, he whined and made so many excuses that God allowed Moses' brother Aaron to be the spokesperson. I guess it's different when God calls someone else.
But isn't that often the case? We can see the skills and talents of others far better than we see them in ourselves. At least, that's the case for those of us who are normal. Big egos check out the section on pride and humility.
Where is our confidence that God knows what He is doing? Truly, He does. If He wants us to do something, even when it's something we've never done before, He'll give us the skills we need to do it. Maybe I should say that's especially when it's something we've never done before. And by skills I don't necessarily mean the ability to make something as a craftsman would. It could be people skills to deal with someone in crisis. It could be office skills to organize paperwork that would allow people to get help they need. It might be a beautiful voice to sing or speak to minister to others.
It doesn't matter what it is. It matters that God has called us. If we show up, He will too. And really that's all we need to know.
