What Has God Called You To Do?
Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning. -- 2 John 6

How would you feel about grabbing a container of quarters and a few friends and heading to the local Laundromat on Saturday night? You could hang out, get to know the people doing their laundry and, oh, put some quarters in the machines and help fold their clothes as they come out of the dryer.

You’re probably shaking your head about now, thinking I have totally lost my mind. I haven’t. I recently watched the video series Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado. It featured a church group that does just what I described.

It’s called meeting people where they are. It’s about putting God’s love into an action people can see. There’s just something so basic about paying for people to do their laundry -- and helping them do it. That kind of interaction opens so many doors.

I once knew a woman who rarely missed a Sunday at church. I’d like to tell you it was because she was so filled with love for Jesus. And she is. But that isn’t why she’s so determined to show up every Sunday.

A few years ago her husband was on his second tour of duty in a combat zone. She was home with three kids, two of them twin toddler. She worked fulltime and, oh, did I mention she lived in the country and not real close to family.

The youth from church showed up at her house one Saturday and did yard work all day. They mowed and cut shrubs and pulled weeds. All that stuff that tends to pile up when you’re on your own with too much to do and not enough hours in the day. Love in action. She went from an occasional Sunday to an every Sunday Christian. And all because a bunch of teenagers decided she was worth giving up their Saturday for.

It’s easy to look around and see what we should do. It takes time and effort and, sometimes, a little creativity to actually do what God expects us to do for each other. What has God called you to do today?
