Just Show Up

"Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" -- John 6:9

Sometimes we agonize over what God has called us to do. We want to do His will. We just aren't sure what it is. The Bible talks about spiritual gifts. We're gifted. We are. We only wish we knew what those gifts were.

We have dreams. We want to do big things for God. One day we'll have enough money. One day we'll have all the time in the world. One day we'll have whatever it is that is holding us back. Yes, indeed. We're going to do great things for God.

We're so busy planning what we'll one day do for God, that we miss what He has called us to do today. What?! He asked you to be kind to that homeless teenager. He wanted you to invite the elderly widow down the street to your home for a meal. He asked for kindness to the one who wronged you. And you didn't show up.

We dismiss the little things as not being big enough for God. So we don't do them. We pass on by. We let someone else handle the small  things while we wait for our big moment when we can do something wonderful for God.

What can do with the little bits you have to offer? Just ask the 5,000 He fed with five small barley loaves and two small fish.
