Pray In All Circumstances
Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere. -- Ephesians 6:18
The prayer request was brief. The writer asked friends to pray for a specific person. No reason was given. Just a request for prayer. And the response began as people prayed.
Facebook has certainly been criticized for not doing some things right. But it offers a quick way to notify people when something happens or a need arises. That’s a wonderful thing. It’s like a cyber prayer chain.
It’s how I knew that a friend had suffered a massive heart attack and needed immediate prayers for healing. He survived, which his doctors didn’t believe would happen, and has begun the slow road to recovery. Prayers, of course, continue.
Another friend sent a request for prayer for her daughter-in-law and unborn grandchild. Premature labor and an ambulance ride to a larger hospital had everyone scared. Prayers went up. Peace came over this family as they readied for a precious child a little earlier than they’d planned.
As Christians we know prayer as talking to God. We go to Him with requests and petitions. We thank Him for blessing us and protecting us. We ask for His peace, for wisdom and knowledge, for direction as we face life’s obstacles.
God always hears us. And He always answers us. It might not be in the way we want Him to answer. It might not be in our time frame. But God always answers and He always stays beside us, no matter how tough the journey sometimes can be.
Prayer unites believers in ways that go beyond explanation. Sometimes it also touches those who aren’t sure they believe in God. It’s amazing how clearly we see when our world crashes down around us. Prayer. Such a basic need. Comfort when there is no comfort.
So pray for those who need it. Pray for those unspoken requests and those desperate requests. Pray in thanksgiving for all your blessings. Pray without ceasing, in all things. Tell God how much you love Him. Show your friends and family how much you care. Pray. Again and again. Pray.
