God Strengthens The Weary

The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. -- Psalm 145.!4

Ever feel like you need a vacation? I'm not talking about one of those trips where you go a zillion miles an hour trying to fit everything in and come back home more exhausted than when you left. I'm referring to a vacation that is all about rest and relaxation and solitude.

Some days just make you hunger for a vacation like that. Everybody wants something. Everybody needs something. Everybody takes something. At the end of the day, there's just nothing left to give to anybody. Especially yourself. Know what I'm talking about?

People sometimes can't believe why I like to spend time with God at night. They're the ones hyped on righteousness that says quality time with God comes in the early morning. He centers our day first thing. Yes, He does. And, yes, I do. But it is in these moments of complete exhaustion when I simply have nothing left that I see Him most clearly.

Maybe it's because I'm not trying to to take charge of a day that belongs to Him. I'm not planning things out or rushing around so that I can get started on the day. I'm just too tired. I want to curl up next to Him, pour out my troubles, aggravations and disappointments, and feel His comfort wash over me.

And He does. He lifts me up and gives me strength. He fills me with hope and peace and a certainty that I belong to Him. I feel His love wash over me. Abba. Father. My God. I love you, too.
