Replace Cell Phone With A Bible
"He is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from the priests, who are Levites. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees." -- Deuteronomy 17:18b-19
What would happen to your life if you treated the Bible like your cell phone? I heard a discussion on the radio the other day and this was the topic. I have no idea who was talking or even what city they were in. But it really did get me thinking.
We all know people who are never without their cell phone. Stop pointing that finger at me. I may carry my phone when I'm at work or on the road but it's not even turned on right now. I am not the person with a cell phone glued to her ear or with her fingers tired from texting all day long.
Imagine carrying your Bible with you everywhere you carry your cell phone. It would always be in your purse, pocket or attached to a clip at your waist. You would never be without it. And everyone would see you using it.
Imagine if you spent as much time reading your Bible as you do talking or texting on your cell phone. You would have plenty of time to study God's word. It would no longer be something you simply couldn't fit into your schedule.
What would happen if you listened to God's voice and direction as much as you listen to all those folks you have on speed dial? You'd get good advice that truly reflects what is best for you. And you'd make far fewer mistakes!
I've always been a little different and recent years have only magnified that. At least in my mind. You see, I do have a small Bible I carry in my purse. I'm rarely without it. I find it gives me great comfort, just knowing that it's there. It's also convenient when I have a few minutes or find myself in the middle of chaos and about to lose it.
It wasn't something I planned. And, no, I'm not one of those Bible-thumping conservatives who think everyone is doomed. I'm actually kind of liberal and give conservatives a headache most of the time. I just found this little Bible and it fit perfectly in my purse. I really like having it there.
Maybe that's why I was drawn to that discussion on the radio. I wish all of us -- myself included -- would truly move God up to the top of our priority list. It would make us better people, make our nation a better place, and let everyone see who Jesus truly is.
